On Friday 3rd November members & friends came together at our Sydney Jow Ga Heaquarters in very special celebration
hosted and coordinated by Simo. The evening opened with inuguration of a new lion followed by a junior and adult lion
dance. What unfolded throughout the evening was something more than all expected.....
Si Heng Kareem Tawansi was presented with his well deserved and long awaited Black Sash - 'blood, sweat and tears' were shed along the arduous journey
Sifu presented his first ever 'Black Instructor Excellence Awards' to Si Heng John Callaghan, Si Heng Jeremy Nysen and SiHeng Stuart McLachlan. This award is for lead instructors holding black sash level and above who have been exception leaders to others and demonstrated ongoing dedication in the quest for perfection and loyalty to Kung Fu, Sifu and the Australian Jow Ga Kung Fu Academy.
Sifu shocked all by announcing and inaugurating our instructor Si Heng Joshua Smith as his first and (to date) only chosen disciple.
A Spectacular Jow Ga Kung Fu and Wushu performance followed during which Sifu showed us that at 50 he can still leap up from full splits into the air with ease. Amongst a host of other demos Josh and Jeremy performed the powerful staff v's 3-section staff fighting set.
The following is an except from Si Heng's Disciple Inauguration Ceremony:
"....although SiHing Joshua Smith is not yet a sifu, in naming Joshua as his disciple Sifu is acknowledging him as
a chosen and worthy example... a special Jow Ga Kung Fu practitioner and instructor who is to be a keeper of the
style for the future.
It is a bare minimum to have attained and progressed beyond the black sash level, to keep moving forward, to always
engage in publicly promoting our system and to be a good teacher and example. Sifu sees SiHing Joshua demonstrating
the qualities required to eventually be a master. Qualities such as: loyalty, honour, respect for oneself, for one’s
teachers and for others, lifelong dedication to the art of Kung Fu; mastery and understanding of the physical and
mental practices.
In SiHing Joshua Smith Sifu sees someone like himself who will dedicate his life to keeping the traditions of Jow Ga
Kung Fu alive."

Sifu took Si Heng Josh Smith to Brisbane to assist teaching his annual intensive for Sifu Brett Fenton at Red Dragon
Kung Fu. After 2 days of intensive kung fu Sifu Fenton and his students hosted a Chinese dinner for Sifu, Simo and Josh.
While in Brsibane Sifu took the time to catch up with Jow Ga family there at Lam Tu Luan Kung Fu. We visited Jow Ga's
Sifu Lam and his student Si Heng John Armsteader who began his Jow Ga career as a student and instructor at our Jow Ga
Sydney Kwoon over 20 years ago.

Sifu made the trip to USA to re-connect with family and his Jow Ga brothers and sisters there. With limited time
in the DC area before his trip south to teach Jow Ga in the Mid-West, Sifu was hosted by his Kung Fu brother Sifu
Raymond Wong. With his usual quiet generosity, Sifu Wong whipped us - Sifu Bennett, Simo and the Wong entourage -
from one Jow Ga Kwoon to the next, from DC into Virginia and Maryland. It was a great joy for Sifu Bennett to reconnect
also with his older Kung Fu brothers Sifu Deric Mims, Sifu Hon Lee, Sifu John Chin and his younger brothers Sifu Reza
Momenan and Sifu Derek Johnson. Many Chinese meals were eaten along the way. Apologies to those he missed on this trip
due to limited time.
Sifu also caught up with Jow Ga family members Teheran Brighthaupt, Gloria Grimes, Matthew Bumphus, Terry Robinson,
Lemuel Talley and later with Eugene Mackie in Atlanta, Georgia.
Thanks again to Sifu Wong and Wong Chinese Boxing Assoc. NW Washington DC for hosting our instructor Si Heng Josh
Smith just one month later for his Washington DC Jow Ga sabbatical and the Wong Tournament !
